Point of Palms

In Nokomis next door to Venice is Point of Palms, the Florida home of Dr. Fred Albee a prominent New York physician of the early 1900’s.

In the early 1920’s Dr. Albee purchased almost 3000 acres of land where Venice is now with a dream to build a model city.

He envisioned agriculture, industry, commerce, housing and recreation coexisting harmoniously and hired celebrated city designer John Nolan to create just such a plan. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers purchased the land in 1925 and proceeded with implementing the plan.

Today local residents can be very grateful for the early vision of Dr. Albee and others as Venice is a beautiful jewel amidst a land of poorly planned suburban sprawl.

  1. I don't believe this is the best view of the home, but it's about the best I could do without an invitation on to the property. And yes, it is very nice, especially I feel as there was very little in this area at the time it was built.
